History also shows the list of Laws passed by one colour of government , and then repealed by another colour of government is a very, very small list indeed .

The Register , in some shape or form , is here for the foreseeable future. Accept it and make the best of it you can.

What they say and what they do goes both ways - and for Seymour it's important not to make his outfit unattractive to the swing types who look at the other options and aren't convinced. The main issue with the registry to date is the illiterati believe what they've been told, which is the registry will make them safer. It's not until you explain how the thing is set up and the potential cost vs the potential risk and then compare that to the likely benefits do their eyes open and they go well that's a crock of poo then. You won't get that being put out by a young, female, socialist/progressive/left wing (80% of the media recruiting in recent years) reporter. They are urban based and have no interest in hunting farming or the outdoors and probably recoil from the thought of shooting an animal (but dropping 1080 is fine cause they support twig/tweet/greenpieces).

    "Illiterati" I like that.

Nicole was in fine form. I passed on the forum members best wishes to her.

In essence, it was: the greater the percentage they get, the greater percentage of positive outcomes we licenced firearms owners get.

Did she say what the ACT firearms policy actually will be?

She has already made it clear that it’s to repeal the current Act and introduce one which has now been drafted. This won’t be rushed as bad legislation is rushed legislation so it’s not in the 100 day plan.

Registration will go and firearms admin will fall under Justice Dept as I recall it.

    Hi guys.

Just to build on your comment WinchesterM69A, the media did report on these exact statistics (although the article had to be corrected once). It was Derek Cheng from the Herald and can be read here: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politi...LLYBXSUANT74Y/

Altough we have had issues in the past with media reporting accurately and free of bias, particulalry around the times of March 2019, there are certainly a few members of the press gallery at Parliament and a few other journalists across the country who report on firearms issues in what I would say is a pretty non-bias manner. Unfortuantely due to algorithms it tends to be the clickbairt articles that get seen the most. Also it is hard to get cut through when there are a lot of big issues swirling around prior to election time.

    Cheers.

if you stop and think about it....Luxton /national have said they wont keep it going if it proves economically unviable/waste of money......... so put the two together and you get ACT to show this is just dumb, this will work better...and Nats can agree to follow that lead and still maintain face...ACT can wiggle in alongside them and then work from within to make the changes needed...rather than make line in sand and throw tanty when it doesnt happen...remember how Cloe S threw toys out when her darling hootch smoking bill got binned.... not a good look at all
far better to have some flexability to get in and then work hard for what you believe in.... keep the faith is what Im saying.

Act has a once in a lifetime chance to be a genuine 12 to 15% party going forward, with real say on the way this country is run.

If Seymour forgets who gave him most of his current support and extra MP's, we can drop him as fast as we supported him.

The current announcements from whomever, remind me of GP yacht racing. One crew takes off to Port (left hand side for you landlubbers) and the rest invariably follow to ‘cover’, being No 1 rule in racing. Next minute some other crew charges to Starboard (yes, right hand side - well done!) and other crews follow.
TBH, I’m fast losing faith in the lot of them. I expected honesty, integrity and commitment from those I favoured, but am quite disappointed in the watering down of initial stances.

One thing I don't hear many saying is we used to have a 'firearm registry' in NZ - I remember either picking up a 'permit to procure' or I was getting the gun I'd just bought inspected by the Firearms Officer at Lower Hutt when a report came over the radio of a gang stoush. The officer said words to the effect they should just leave the buggers to sort their own shit out.

To buy a gun you went to the cops and got a permit to procure - you told them what you were buying, and what for.
You then presented that 'permit' to whoever you were buying off - and they filled it in.
The next step was to take the gun and filled in Permit to the local Arms Officer and have it physically checked.
The Arms Officer then typed out a 'Certificate of Registration of Firearm' - and in 1980 you paid $6 for the privilege.
    In 1967, Registration cost 10s ......... or $1.
The police didn't seem to care how many guns you had - just as long as you followed the rules.

With the bolt out I could carry my gun on the bus or train - or walk through a city with one.
My motorbike shit itself at the foot of the Rimutaka's and I had to walk home - to Taita. I carried my pack and rifle through Upper Hutt and got 'looked over' several times by a passing police cruiser. They watched me walk at least 20 miles and not once did they stop to check - I should have stuck my thumb out. That was a thirty mile walk, my legs 'twanged' like crazy when I got home.

In those days - the Police had a record of your guns and you had a record of your guns - typewritten on paper.

I don't know when they chucked 'Registration' - I did hear it had got expensive, or was time consuming - maybe both .............. they had no computers back then.
Nowdays they got computers and they think it will work betterer.

And of cause .............. we had the big Christchurch thing - and a Leader who just wanted guns gone - we were a dangerous pack of bastards.
Or ............. was it about making a statement to the world ?

And now I've written all that - am I just stating something so obvious no one bothers talking about it .......... I'm starting to feel a bit foolish .................
