    Traveling with a rifle

So I need some advice. This Easter to Anzac I have off and plan on going to Wellington to visit some friends. I plan on taking my rifle to sneek into the tararuas for a few days hunting.
The drama is I don't know anyone in Wellington with a firearms safe and don't want to hide the ride at my friend's place. Does anyone have ideas on what I can do?
Would a outdoor shop take it for a few days and store it for a fee?
    Thx

A hunting shop might, or hopefully someone on here might offer.

Local police will not look after you. I tried this and was treated like a criminal. Questions like "why are you travelling with a rifle" as if this was a crime.

Police have very little storage available and are unreasonably suspicious- so you are likely better to give it to a stranger vouched for by other strangers on the internet
I'd like to verify your clam.

I left mine with the police in Twizel once and it wasn't a drama. That was pre Christchurch though.

Phone Guncity in Welly, ask to speak to the manager. Explain what the scenario is and let him know you are happy to buy a box of beers for boys.

If they can't help you, try Outdoors Hut in Upper Hutt or 55Six on the Kapiti side, depending on where you are staying.

Bring along a heavy bike cable lock and affix rifle to friends' hot water tank or similar. Ammo hidden elsewhere. Bolt under your car seat.

Best solutions are the solutions you control.

Thanks for all the info fellas. I'm hoping to shoot a red this weekend at a local spot so no need to take the rifle to wellys if I get something. But will be keen for a walk down there to see some new country.

But, is this way can be authorized as safe store by firearm safety officer? Or, even the friend do `t have FAL?
