I really wanted to buy another rifle which would have required my registration, your experience have made me unwant it.What a shit show of a system. How is this even fit for production release?
Logged in with my Realme account and tried to complete my profile which seems to be the first step. Apparently it can't match my details to a licence - please call Te Tari Pukeko.
Ring up, get through all the woke greetings, sit in a queue for 16 minutes.
Eventually someone decides it's time to answer the phone - more woke greetings. Helpdesk girl tells me that signing up from a mobile phone is unreliable so I need to use a desktop computer. Goes on to explain that the system sometimes struggles if your name on your licence is in all caps, in which case you need to input your details in the registration form in all caps too. I ask if she can create my profile with me on the phone but nope, can't help with that.
Go to a desktop computer and log in to begin registration. Try 50 different combinations of my name in uppercase, lowercase, title case, and everything in-between. Eventually work out that they just don't like my middle name, so first and last name only and in all caps it is.
An hour later, I now have a profile! Time to try register my incredibly run of the mill and you'd think widely supported hunting rifles.
First CZ 223, all good.
Then I try a Howa 1500 in 308. There are 3 variants, all with the exact same details except for being labelled "model 3", "model 4" etc at the end. How on earth do I know which one I have? No idea, so I move on.
Next I try a Winchester Model 70, but this time apparently the rifle doesn't exist in 7mm-08. So no can-do, have to ring up Te Tari Pukeko again so I can sit in another queue to get someone to decide that Model 70s in 7mm-08 do exist. Except that by now it's after hours and the helpdesk has gone home after a hard day of keeping NZ safe, so I'll have to wait for another day to go through all this again.
It's very hard to comply when they do their best to make it the most difficult process possible. I wish I had avoided an activating circumstance to delay participating in this farce.
