Do it on the phone then ya don't need a real me account
As I said I tried the online thing what a dog
On the phone no drama at all, and as for those worried about weird calibres don't worry I've got more than most and it's not an issue.

No- they're a negative Nancy for whinging!
I already had a realme from dealing with IRD, wasn't aware that people were having issues with that side of it... I understand the annoyance if it was a pain setting up realme, dealing with Govt agencies is usually a nightmare.
For me and others I know who just called for the register had it super easy.
If you are not on the firearms register and you buy a rifle of someone who is on it can you get on the register and just register that rifle and leave the ones you already own for a later date.
I did not say weird calibers at any stage haha.
I've heard directly from a few people now in my position, and they had to call up to complete the job over the phone. It still took them all multiple calls to sort it out in the end, and it is a ballache I just simply don't need.
For me (and everyone else I've talked to who has completed registration) the issue is that you find one or more firearms they will not accept. And it isn't weird stuff. Gecado Plinker single shot .22, there has to be thousands of them, I can't have them all. Then you call and yes they are great on the phone but you are left wondering if they got it right as my Gecado's were an automatic rifle for a few minutes there. So you try to look and see what they entered, but for some reason you cannot see your own firearms till you fill out a form and take it to the police station then wait a few days. That is not an IT based system. It is a manual system with some IT based aspects that, because of the holes, will become inaccurate.
Well that was a waste of time. Logged in, listed all Firearms as per their drop downs, signed/ticked all boxes and the stupid bloody thing wouldn't let me submit. Back over 5 times, nothing missed, still wouldn't let me submit. Gave up - walking away. Useless, if that's the best they can do they need a rocket for a $1 Billion+ system.
I didnt realize I had to validate my account till I read about it on here. I printed the form and took me and my licence to the local police station and presented it to the lass. All done, and a couple of days later, I'm all good.
However, the very real danger exists that people won't know they need to do this step, and they'll fall foul of the law.
Today's news had a story about a woman who had to appear in court for illegal fishing - all she did was cast her very young kid's line. The mum didn't have a licence but the kids both did. The F&G ranger could have sorted it with a warning, but went the whole 9 yards with both barrels - she now has a diversion against her name, where she never had so much as a speeding ticket. Just put yourself in her shoes, and you've missed a step in the registration process, and an overzealous detective picks up on it... just saying.
The "very" is the relevant bit there...you can get a childs licence for free..if child is too young to hold rod and wind in fish...well they arent really the one fishing are they??? a family licence will cover them all.... a day licence will cover mum...she can do all the casting and help kids wind in fish no matter thier age they can have a rod each then, its a get around/work around buying a licence herself.... I see your point re an authority with an attitude...but often there is a reason for it
