Well I had a wet lazy avo, so registered my bundle of firearms. All went smoothly, phone dropped out once, but she rang back. Said I made her work hard with all my strange makes and models. Next hurdle is my licence renewal. God I love owning firearms

Yes you need to also register it and as regards your othe question, this is what they sent/emailed me

If you follow the steps below and validate your MyFirearms account you will be able to see all transactions, those entered by yourself and those entered by the Registry.

About MyFirearms | Firearms Safety Authority New Zealand

How to validate your MyFirearms account

    Step 1: Log in
Visit MyFirearms and log in with RealMe. You’ll need your mobile phone to carry out the security check.

Step 2: Go to My Activity
Select the ‘My Activity’ link at the top of that page. This will take you to your My Submission dashboard.

Step 3: Go to MyFirearms Submitted Forms
Select the heading ‘MyFirearms Submitted Forms’. This will show you all the forms you have submitted online.

Step 4: Find your Complete Your Profile form
Under the heading ‘My submitted other forms’ you'll find a link to your Complete Your Profile form. The link will start with the letters ‘CYP’. Select the link.

Step 5: Save and print the PDF
You’ll find a PDF file at the top of the Complete Your Profile 'Submission' page. The file name will be the date you submitted the form. Save it to your device, then print a copy out.

Step 6: Bring the form to a Police station
Bring the printed form in person to a Police station, together with your firearms licence card.
Once your identity has been confirmed, your MyFirearms account will be validated. This may take a few days.

Really simple, not for idits like me.
The only firearm I had trouble registering, was a single shot Issac Hollis single shot 12 gauge, they need photos to confirm what it is. They only have double barrel ones on their list.

Have been on there a few times by phone, some staff are far more knowledgeable than others, if I strike a "dummy", phone drops out and recall hoping for better. Last one was magic, only interest was transferring into my name, no interest in where it had originated.

"no interest in where it had originated"

As it should be. If one is on the Register and is given/bought more Firearms from someone who is not on the Register and does not want their name used surely that is not a requirement to supply the source. The object being to get Firearms onto the Register.

Thought selling a firearm was an activating event to register?

So if you buy off a gang member, do you think they have a licence and would the rush to register whatever else they own?
It’s only for the law abiding and at lease one more firearm gets registered

Thought the discussion was about the ones called "Fit and Proper" which will be the new registry system users. IF you've purchased via your gang connections would have taken it for granted the license viewing would have been a standard part of the procedure?

I’m about to make a new purchase which will be my ‘triggering event’…

What’s more straight forward - A) get setup and register everything i have before the purchase, and then do a ‘transfer’ transaction with the dealer. Or, B) purchase as is and start the whole registry thing off with that triggering event?

    B) seems to make more sense but curious if it’s the process is easier going route A)?

B is easier but you could go either, it's not that big a deal
You'll find something that won't work out but that is part and parcel of dealing with government departments and if it happens first or second time doesn't make that big of a difference

If you want the RealMe verification that can take a few days, I did mine recently in preparation for my triggering event.

Not sure who designed their website but it is a shocker. Hard to navigate and not user friendly at all.
