My rifle is a Rossi 8117. I'm not sure if they are the same action, but they are definitely different stocks and barrels. I don't want to roll the dice on registering my 8117 as an RB17.
Huh. A quick look at the 8117, it seems that NZ is the only place that calls it that. It is the same rifle as the RB17 that I can see. Weird. Not advice to enter it as an RB17 by the way just yet. But I'll pass this along.

I've had a chat to one of the bosses here who has dealt with the FSA a bit. Our advice is to call them if the gun isn't on the list and ask to give them feedback about it.

Unfortunately it seems that the list is a design choice to keep it accurate as possible and I kind of agree. If we are all putting slight variations of the same thing then it just gets worse and worse.

Definitely give them the feedback about missing models etc. We've put it in our list of feedback too.

I think Ill probably have an issue. As I have a CZ600. But not the new CZ600 but rather a BRNO 600 that instead of being marked as a BRNO, is marked as CZ

Nah, it's used in Europe as well. 8117 seems to correlate with the CBC model number, so maybe Rossi USA don't want punters there knowing it's a CBC made rifle. The RB17 action looks the same to me, but the stock is different. The action is the same used in the mossberg 817 and the Citadel 17HMR (which I don't think is in the catalog either) - just the stocks are all different.

So what I can gather so far from what I've read re putting the closest thing down If your exact firearm isn't on the register list is........what happens if the blue brigade come to your house with a list of what you've registered and and the particular item that was the closest to what you had isn't in your safe. Not your fault but get someone that's having a bad day and life could get pretty shitty for a while. even worse if theirs a couple of items not there....

Problem is having a list is going to create issues - after all how many rifles are rechambered rebarreled or modified away from what they were and you just won't get that on the prepopulated list?

There are going to be a lot of people that can find theirs on the list - good o. A lot of people will drive down the list, find the nearest and probably not even realise that what they have is different to what they registered, and then others won't be able to complete online at all and need to go through the phone in and scratch heads. That's where it falls over, as then you've got humans entering in remotely and if they enter it wrong and you can't correct it who's fault is that? Not ideal, seems very rushed and not thought through. The fact you are only limited to alphanumeric characters with dash and slash is a bit of a headbutt too.

Yes, interface between the two names of the companies and before the model line up was completely refreshed. A similar one is ex-military rifles, commercially refurbed but with all the remanufacture details on the original barrel. A barrel or two later, hmm what do we actually have???

I may have missed this point in the various threads.
    Test case here, not me.
So how the hell do you enter in the markings on an Iraqi Mauser? Not sure if Farsi or Arabic?
Calling 0800 won't help unless both people understand the script and how will it be entered in the database?
Translating into English won't work, as that is entering in incorrect information. Hello $20,000 fine or 2 years.

Antique Arms asked the same question and the answer is that you will need to put on a serial number in English.
You need to ring the 0800 number for instructions on how to get the serial number to use.

Needless to say the collectors in the room where not happy about defacing a collectable firearm.

The have a recording online they took of the Q&A session.

That information given was not quite correct. Police can give special dispensation for a tag to be attached with an appropriate serial number if the collectable item for example is of high value or an heirloom.

I cannot guess why the presenter didn't mention that.

And this information is on their website and has also been communicated via Andrew @ Antique Arms.

    FFS.
Had a go at this register rifle thing.
I'll have to call the 0800 number for half my firearms for missing key data not being on their lists, including manufacturer. Not having Longbranch, Fazakarley and Lithgow? Seriously?
One of my firearms I could only put in 'Rifle' and '.223Rem'. The drop down fields having nothing else relevant.
