@Ruff has a point...Too many irresponsible clowns back yard breeding, they should have restrictions. I say this as I now have a supposed 'pure' lab which I got from someone, that started to loose its eyesight from a pup. Had to retire him from hunting at 5 years due to loss of night vision and now he cant see at the age of 7. He has PRA which can lead to serious pain later on.
My own fault for being ignorant in knowing what questions to ask the seller.

love it when someone has no intention of buying something posted but feel the need to warn everyone of the issues of the item for sale. If you have no intention of buying shut your fucken pie hole. One more!

As someone who regularly, on a weekly basis, has to try and help people make something out of something they have bought which is not fit for purpose then I think you should shut your fu... whatever....
By the time someone realizes they have three times the amount of work to get one third the result from an inferior pup they usually have an investment of money, time, emotion and family commitment to a dog that will now live with them for another 10 useless years, all the time while the owner wishes they had a real gundog.

Line-breeding/inbreeding is a very common concept and people can evaluate it uses, or not, and I'm a fan of it's uses, if they know the pedigree... if it has been done with purpose, knowledge and thought, not because they were too fucken lazy to keep dogs in their runs but if they are just buying sight unseen and no one is saying upfront the mother is the product of a Mother son mating then I feel it only responsible to be sure the buyers are aware... quite happy for them to make any choice they want after that, but the information should presented up front.

    Yellow (and similar shades)[edit]

In the early years of the breed through to the mid-20th century, Labradors of a shade we would now call "yellow" were in fact a dark, almost butterscotch, colour (visible in early yellow Labrador photographs). The shade was known as "Golden" until required to be changed by the UK Kennel Club, on the grounds that "Gold" was not actually a colour. Over the 20th century a preference for far lighter shades of yellow through to cream prevailed, until today most yellow Labradors are of this shade. Also fawn has been a common colour in the yellow lab variety.[14]

Interest in the darker shades of gold and fox red were re-established by English breeders in the 1980s, and three dogs were instrumental in this change: Balrion King Frost (black, born c. 1976) who consistently sired "very dark yellow" offspring and is credited as having "the biggest influence in the re-development of the fox red shade",[14] and his great-grandson, the likewise famous Wynfaul Tabasco (b. 1986),[15] described as "the father of the modern fox red Labrador", and the only modern fox red Show Champion in the UK. Other dogs, such as Red Alert and Scrimshaw Placido Flamingo, are also credited with passing on the genes into more than one renowned bloodline.

This is cut and paste from Wikipedia the other colours exist but have to be registered with the kennel club as yellow if you wish to call your dog golden or fox red then don't lose any sleep over it. It would be reasonable to argue that had the uk kennel club not made the change then the shade of the modern yellow would be much darker as many breeders would have strived to meet the new expectations described in the breed standard

Seriously, why would anyone be interested if they have half a clue? There's a surplus of dogs out there and it doesn't take a lot of effort to sort wheat from chaff.

Dog people be crazy - I kinda get where they are coming from with the likes of hip and elbow scores etc. But fixing a trait buy back breeding, in breeding, cousin touchin etc is a little strange. Our 10 year old lab is going a little silver fox what colour would this be?
