Why is that! Is it too hard, is it the culture ... what happens ... I was stewarding for Mr Whitehead at a QC trial in the BOP a few or more years ago ... there was a woman there with a smashing Pointer, she had travelled from the Manawatu for the trial ... never saw her again ... her dog had real potential, in the most part as her husband hunted the dog ... you can sure tell the dogs who have not been hunted ...

This has been used as an excuse for some time and we can't deny hunting numbers in general are dropping and will most likely continue to drop. However there is quite a lot of interest out there for getting groups going focused on hunting dogs as opposed to trialling and titles and the trial being the end goal. The fall off at trials is much greater than the fall in general hunting numbers.
It used to be trials tested the best hunting dog, I am not sure this is the total case anymore. Many people with no interest in trialing do have an interest in their dogs and doing more. We need to find a way to present that option.
It is difficult to win an argument with an intelligent person! It is near impossible with a stupid person!

It won't happen. For it to be rebuilt, it must fail. I give spaniel and retriever 20 years, P&S 10. Don't consider this alarmist, all of these clubs have been in remission at least once in the NZGTA's history for one reason or another, it's reasonable to expect it to happen again.

By then, I will be the old crowd
