Easy fix, I'll take care of what you don;t
Seriously guys, I see the relevance in Tussock's post...
It's about time people just relaxed a bit around here... Seriously, people ask for advice, and get really shitty when it's pointed out what really does and does not work... arguments start when their questions are answered.... I think part of the issue is this... not with the forum, the entire dog world.... many people involved deeply in trials believe the trial results the only benchmark, so it stands to reasons a person who spent the weekend winning against four other dogs might rock up to the forum pon Sunday night thinking they have conquered the world and have all the answers... I loove trials but the hunting dog world is far bigger and there's many more benchmarks many people put more store in... I really believe the main issue on all dog forums is the trials folks thinking anyone who doesn't do what they do has achieved anything... I think they are, in many cases, hiding in an unrealistic corner of the dog world.... there's a lot more and more higher disciplines... Field trial results only mean you have beaten some dogs... tell us what they were and the results will have more merit.
I've been around long enough to remember live game pointer trials where Leon ran, Bob Ran, Noel ran, Robyn ran, John Ran, and more, many more... now , almost no -ne runs but the claims are bigger than any of those gurus made... come back to earth and just talk gundogs in the field guys... I love trials, but seriously, 99% of folks here know what they are about and couldn;t give a flying fudge sundae... there's a lot more to hunting dogs than just trials.
trials are the only bench mark where a group can come together on mass and show their wears unless you can suggest another platform dogs can show off their skills next to another to be considered .its easy to sell snake oil if your its not being tested !!!!!!
Personally I think all should look to the game trials as the bench mark and attend a few to understand what work level their dog may be able to perform to with a bit of good advice .There are no negatives in taking your dog to a trial

Try this... Trials can only be the best benchmark when the majority of breeding stock is participating.... while only a fraction is, they are virtually worthless for their intended purpose.
Absolutely Ruff , it couldn't be any better to watch a dog over a day rather than fpr 10 minutes but on mass we dont have that luxurey and my point is the trial arena is the best platform for all to see many perform on mass .There are better platforms just not for 20 people at once

personally I would love a day like that -I cannot really speak for others Ruff but I am always willing to put my boy forward for glory or failure on the day and that is why I would never conclude a decision on a dog by one win .
I would like to hear you thoughts on good mating choices -not a trick question just I would like to build some knowledge
