It is never easy Woody but you are doing the right thing. My thoughts are with you.

As far as I am concerned there is nothing quite as hard as that decision Woody. I have had to make it a few times and you can tell yourself that it is for the best etc... but to be fair none of that made it any easier for me. When My old boy went a couple of years ago, I got the vet out for a home visit. My only regret was waiting too long, since I selfishly didn't want him to go. Dogs hide their pain and don't really show you just how much they are suffering.
Best wishes, and my thoughts are with you in this terrible time

We had to say goodbye to our boy Willis 6 months ago. He was only two and a half years old but was born with bad kidneys. The last few days he was vomiting a lot and gave up eating so we knew the time had come. It's not easy and many tears will flow but it's the best thing to do when quality of life is becoming compromised. We got the vet to come to our house which IMO is much nicer for you and your mate.

I'm sitting here reading all of this with tears in my eyes too, as it's coming for my girl soon. I think this season will be her last on the hill. I'm sorry that this is happening to you and your mate.

Sorry mate, you know it’s the right call, but that doesn’t make it any easier.
Lost my old girl a month or so back.
Bloody sure I still see her out of the corner of my eye, now and again
Hang in there, and remember the good times, cos I bet there were heaps.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.

Shedding tears is proof of how much you care and how big a part of the family they become.
As everyone else has said so far, Thoughts are with you and yours as you do the right thing. RIP Burl.
