You chuck a fence at your dog @Sarvo no wonder you need a dog you have no fences to keep ya sheep in catch 22
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.

No you use Dodge to drive/push or pull da sheep along the fence - then - you turn around and drive/push or pull da sheeps along the fence the other way - meantime giving said Dodge the command you want to install into him/her for the lefti and righti
    Very simlple really
Start in sheepyards is better then on fence - said Dodge can eventually be sent through da fence and pull back

@Sarvo now come on don't give me that common sense answer, I like the thought of you chucking the fence at the dogwhile shouting left right....

I will be totally honest with ya - I have thrown more than a f~~cking fence at my dogs - actually to be honest I feel sick to think now what I did do occasionally to the poor muts

I remember one day in particular
My sheep/cattle/deer farm was bordered by Dairy cockies (aka tit pullers)
I was in front paddock and my Huntaway who turned out to be a cracker was giving me the total run-around - so me being an immature 23-25 year old at the time was giving this dog a verbal abusing that you cannot even imagine

After the 2-5min rampage - I looks around and there just 200m behind me over boundary was the complete Reporoa Dairy Farm monthly walk around doing neighbours farm
    I felt sick!!

So I sheepishly (no pun intended) goes down to local Tavern next night and literally got a standing ovation
They all said that they all learnt words that day that they never knew existed

Current bull chasing team is a foxy x blue heeler and a pointer hunting dog. Commands consist of “get it”.

Funny about the verbal abuse. It only helps vent your anger but does nothing for the dog as it doesn’t understand yelled swear words. It only understands that you are angry with it. From my experience it never helps the situation. Subtle low strong tone usually works ten times better. Works good on kids too.

Not working dogs as such except for a bit of hunting they are pets, went through the list of commands / phrases my border collies know and ended up at 50+.... Crazy when I wrote them all down, random things that you say but don't think anything of it till you start thinking of them (have purposefully used all of them in the last few weeks since starting the list and they do respond to them all)

I mean we use..get up..get over..get back..get in behind ya flaming mongrel...get out of it etc etc so why not go left and go right?????at least you wont forget it.
I just used my arms and or body movement with dog watching me as was (still are) a lazy bugga.

i knew you were a trouble maker from the start micky d.
mere for the right for hunterways and behind for the left.
here for the right for heading dogs and get over for the left.[mup insert heading dogs name here for the creep up ofcourse]
different run and stop whistles for hunterways versus heading dogs ofcourse..
different runs and stops dog to dog as well as in thier respective specialtys
.[given selling dogs was our perk to you couldnt sell a guy two similiarly command set up dogs].
get thru was definatly handy for the smaller paddocks of poronui swede crops and if you had to catch the lead vis a 2 paddock fence shuffle.
you dont wont to stifle natural ability with to much regimentation tho
ie i think theyd know whether they had to go up or down a hill by use of direction and run commands.
i admit to being no angel and made the bashing mistakes but eventually went to peer pressure.
i had a team and singular command go and sit down.
either together or singly on the hill so i could work another dog or two and the gomand sit downer was relaxing waiting but not pressuring or chasing stock but handy too the continuing job.
the peer pressure was a two word command and a seperate team pack whistle

having them all go and sit down together on command meant you didnt have to piss about with collar chains unless you were physicly buggering off and leaving them at a spot for say lunch or to go pick up fresh horse or a vehicle.
