I have no doubt the Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a better water dog... it should be, it's like a Lab on steroids, but they are one tough hard arse customer and not easy to train... I do like Labs.

Ivy looks like a great little mate, but I see why she was no match for an irrigation race... sorry man...

A little more recearch and i found out the same thing Ruff not as great with kids ether. They do look very strong animals a true working dog.
I do want to put a lot of time into a dog but i dont have enough experience to handle a difficult one. Shame those lean pointers are beautiful animals

To me Springers and Labs were on par nice dogs but never wanted to own one. Like a toyota corola. also thought that about yappy little purse dogs. Long haired animals no good on a dairy farm anyway

If Bunnies, Pheasant and quail are yu main bag and few ducks thrown in yeah, if ducks are your main bag wqith a bot fo the rest... a lab.. if deer are in the mix.. forget a springer.. too noisy in the bush. Labs are a the real versatile in NZ.

A mate has a cross and she is a stunning dog. Very well behaved and a great wee (ok, bigger) hunter. Her first duck shooting last season, watched my wire for a bit then she was into it. Must have done around 40-50 retrieves for the day plus a heap of flushing in the river.

Tussock, why the hell would you stop your dog from having a wee swim?
