i agree there needs to be a few more around, and am confident you will place most of your first litter, however the gundog market is a strange beast, you will struggle to home regular litters of pups, no matter how well bred they are.
i'd advise a frozen semen litter first off to hedge ya bets and take advantage of the homes waiting, it will give you the most bang for ya buck as far as genetic diversity goes as you will quickly get to saturation point by using the old kiwi lines first........ it's a timing thing.

There would be very few, if any, nz setters that don't have woody in them at lest once.
It does need more diversity used.

May I ask, what to me is an obvious question?
Given the known limited bloodlines here (according to this thread) why didn't you get her inseminated over there before she was shipped over?
Surely that would be the easiest way to increase bloodlines here and be cost efficient?

that seems very logical Barefoot. You should have consulted to El B
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

    1. A dog no one else in NZ could handle except for our greatest handler. Noel recounts a story where Leon rings him up ranting "come pick your dog up. I think I've nearly thrashed him to death"

    2. He was linebred on in the later Wingfield litter without success, because:

    3. It is widely considered he never threw a pup in his own league.

How I wish there was stuff of the pure Sharnberry blood still around! I'd be a taker.

And thats a relative statement too. The most talented setter of recent times, not ever seen. I' ve heard enough people say he was just another Sharnberry Shooter, except 30 years on Leon knew how to handle him. I honestly think you have a wealth of good blood here, as Uplander says don't bottleneck yourself too early

he never threw a pup as good -that we dont know because few were ever trialed. He had fire for sure but he was a grand field trial champ and could be handled by both Noel and Leon
