I have been dog sitting a GSP over winter, while the owner is away through the week.

She has a cover, her kennel is out of the wind and insulated with pink batts, but doesn't have a front door.

Any blankets I put in the kennel, she biffs out. Go figure.

I think that one of the things that has helped with the cold is that she is carrying a little more fat than I've seen before, so she has two jackets over her vitals, one internal, one external.

I got a good canvas bean bag for dogs from Cactus. My dog loves it. Its the only thing she has ever had to sleep on that she hasn't destroyed. Keeps her off the boards and warm.

During the warm winter days I put it out in the sun for her, and during the summer in the shade.

Is that the mongrel mat or the actual beanbag? My boy has ripped up the last couple of mats.

A couple of the guys on here have gone out of their way and sent me some gear to keep the dog warm.

    Thanks @Pengy and @A330driver

    Appreciate it.

Side note, it’s only been 13 days and the training is going exceptionally well. We seem to be making up for the lost time when he was with his previous owners.

Also went with the name change to “Track” so he’s really come a long way very quickly

Great to here all is going well Sako. Good on those guys for sending cuddle blankets
I used to have to nail the carpet down in one of my dogs kennals, otherwise (like your dog NorthDude), my boy would drag it out into the rain, the doofus.
My dogs always pay a bit more attention when I talk quietly. It might be that I'm usually whispering when I say "where's the possum/rabbit/kitty
Or maybe they just can't hear what I'm bleating about

Worth keeping them warm. You sleep outside and you won't die, but you will get arthritis. They curl into a ball and shiver and it tightens them up badly. Lots of "hip displasia" is just an insanely tight lower back from shivering in a ball. Vets won't charge you any less for an operation. Plenty of fat in their belly also helps.

My boy will ask for his coat.
