We cannot be hunting ALL THE TIME irrespective of any overwhelming wish, but the dog never stops being your companion, on the hill, in the rough, on the hearth, he is there...my dogs are permitted inside, they know the rules and there are parameters. Being permitted to come into the human's dwelling will not negate the dog's hunting ability...if he has such a fragile prey drive, send him back

Welcome to the forum, Accountess. As the French call it, the 'malicious intent' of some bird dogs will have your skin crawling!! While the avian kind thankfully do not have the same capabilities as their prehistoric ancestors, nor the gashing tusks of the wild boar, the endeavour of a prey driven bird dog is no less than that of a pig dog.

    +1 for this statement.
My dog is inside or outside or where ever I am and she seems happy with that. She is my constant companion all the time, in saying that I go hunting almost on a daily basis so dog doesn't get too spoilt and keeps me going.

My Vizsla sleeps inside and has free range of the house, inside and out. He has his own comfy bed next to the couch, he's also got a kennel outside if needed, but chooses to be part of the family. Poor bugger would get cold outside ...lol.
One of the reason he sleeps inside, is that I don't want any bastard stealing him!

Each to their own but no dog of mine has or will sleep inside. My wife's cat is also a permanent outsider hahaha.
