Labradors have once again taken the title of New Zealand's most popular dog breed.
There are more than 41,000 registered Labradors in the country.
Also topping the list are the Huntaway, Border Collie, Jack Russell and Heading dogs.
These official figures come from the National Dog Database, in the past year over half a million dogs have been registered.

Make sure its purebred mate. Little more expensive but they are alot different to non purebreads and you never know what other species they will have in them.
I currently have the Labrador breed and the Pointer breed at home
My past experience is mainly with the Labrador breed.
Of the two, in your circumstance, I would unhesitatingly recommend the Labrador breed.
I would not run either of them 5k a day, no where bloody near it.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Funny thing about dogs isn't it...they sleep all day in their kennel...let them out and they go nuts for a few minutes then lay down and sleep again.
I'll put my crazy dog lady two cents in - Go the mutts! The best working dogs I've ever seen have been NZ Collies, the good old heading dog.
Well done for wanting to put the miles into the pooch but don't forget about brain games and training. Have fun!! Sounds like you've got a great challenge ahead Dogs are the best, aren't they??!
She loves the free fresh wind in her hair; Life without care. She's broke but it's oke; that's why the lady is a tramp.

Cheers guys very intresting all the different opinions the dog would be living on my fathers farm up the road from where i live once its older where i would attempt to train/walk it. My parents are going to be living up there shortly my mother is keen to also spend time with a dog as she enjoys walking too. Im going to do some more research on exercise as there seems to be a lot of mixed views cheers guys
Not trying to put you off but be prepared for a challenge - sounds like you'll not just be training the dog, but training more humans too. Write down some rules and stick to them.
I've always found that one-handler dogs are the most responsive as consistency is the key.
My dog takes the piss when my other half cues him to do things, and since Mr Man has come along (the dog was first) the sharpness of my dog's behaviour has waned considerably. Not to his demise or anything but it's definitely noticeable.
