    Finding lost dog.

Anyone got any good ideas for find a lost dog? Good friends dog has been spooked by something and buggered off up near Kawakawa.
They left a bed and bowl of water at the spot where it disappeared into the forestry last night. Apparently a ambo saw it very early this morning.
It’s more of a city dog not hunting.
    Cheers

I saw that and posted it to the lost pig dog page.
They have done the right thing, the other things are contacting nearby land owners, and spending time out there looking.

put items out that smell strongly of you and if in the area it will likely be sleeping on it when you next check it
usually its a coat or something that doesnt get washed often

fresh scent is best not some old coat that hasnt been worn for six months
otherwise just take the tee shirt off you are wearing once you finish looking for the day and leave it there with it

My boys always end up sleeping on my work socks, don't know if they like the smell or just passed out there

if its an entire male...find a bitch in season and take her out to area and consider keeping her there in cage overnight... keep going back looking and contact close by landowners...dont give up.

Check the pound though, could have been picked up. Had a local heading dog lost in the thunder last week, picked up and deposited in a pound 80 km away. At least the owner got it back.

Thank you very much for all of the tips. They ended up getting in touch with some tracker based in Nelson who helped them out with some other pointers. Like not calling its name (unsure of the reason). Sounded like the well worn clothing worked as well. Possibly slept on some of it but got scared off the next morning.
    Facebook did help with sightings.
Ended up just camping in the car on the second night and heard his collar come by so put their hand out and then slowly opening the door.

    Cheers again.

Yeah they found him. Certainly a big adventure of a little city dog haha. Some very happy friends though. Really appreciate all of the advise.
