never seen a vizsla capable of working out to 300m in fact be lucky to see any pointing breed willing to cast out that far.
The breeders names were Margaret and Tony? Orr and they live in Tirau. There is a breeder here in Morrinsville too,Jenny Hawthorne is her name and they have a good reputation.Maybe my dog doesn't go too far in front because thats how I brought her up but thats how she is.Tidy around camp too,she won't wander even if the hut offal hole is close by......great when you can kick back after a hunt and not worry about where your dog is

Got one of those, doesn't seem to listen to much i say
Chesapeake Bay Retriever, great watchdog, fun to work with, goes hard all day. Ducks, pheasant, deer.
@Pointer had a b/w pointer that would hit those distances, 5 yrs ago my old boy was hunting 200-300 mtrs either side of me.
Not challenging your point coz I haven't even seen the dog run.
But one has to wonder when a dog is under control at those distances or simply doing its own thing. I'm yet to see a hander who can handle a dog at those distances properly. Yes I have seen some but the very rear one. Moreover majority of the hunting done in NZ doesn't need a dog like that...
Point being for DXROLLA - don't bite more than you can chew...
There's a few forum members who saw Spot go and can verify that UU isn't pulling numbers out of his arse about that dog. Spots' particular bloodline is known for being "too much" Spectacular to watch? Sure. Nearly useless in NZ? Absolutely.
I think 7mmwsm was meaning that the Vizsla in question was out of control. Thing about P&S work is that at those distances, there has to be a certain amount of autonomy in the dog to do it to start with. As for handling at that distance, just be cause you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, judgeBut one has to wonder when a dog is under control at those distances or simply doing its own thing. Certainly not. Or anywhere, really. Moreover majority of the hunting done in NZ doesn't need a dog like that...
I don't, distance hasn't got anything to do with it... if you can control a dog at 1km, great - hats...
But the ones who can control a dog at 200-300m are rare...
If they didn't I'd expect you to have an issue with that anyways...
