How to stop dog wonder off

Took Bean to check the possum traps once and that was a mistake,
now he would just sneak off while I occupied, else he would sneak off chasing rabbit, turkey or anything he could kill.

I know he was bored and I could be on tool or machinery for hours.
Any tip on how to keep him on my line of sight, hate to see him injure himself or to put him on a leash.

    Tie him up .

He is a dog , not your child so he needs to be tied if he isnt actually working.

That's a handy dog that can fetch you KFC
Na you either need a crate to keep him in or tie him up near where you are working. If you have your 4X4 there you could make a bit of a bed in the back and put him on a long line so he can jump in and out of the back with the back door open. Regular breaks to let him off so he can toilet etc...

Hunting for himself = trouble coming soon. Tie him up. Dog then knows where it is supposed to be and what doing so is happy.

Tie dog up when occupied with traps etc, walk on lead till he gets idea. Or buy tracking/training collar. They soon get the idea if they know there’s consequences for misdemeanours.

Yeah, that's what I thought, a long running rig (between a tree) with long line + harness would be the answer for now.

My daughters would disagree with that.

    Oh yeah, he could,
I trained him to fetch me almost anything he could see and bite especially that KFC bag
He is just over 2 yo and a good boy but I don't know how to train him to control his boredomness and excitement (reactive)

    I like that e-collar or tracking/training collar idea Woods23

If you are going to do the running lead thing along a wire, make sure you put a clamp on the wire a lead length short of the tree each end, or he will go to the end and wrap the lead around the tree and no more "running lead"

ut I don't know how to train him to control his boredomness and excitement (reactive)

I dont think you can- boredom cure is work excercise if you cant give him that and he wanders tie him up - excitement again work but again no work for him tie him up - Mickey Duck is dead right if he is wandering of and chasing rabbits etc trouble coming - you need three commands 1) come thats easy food pat on leg come - 2) leave it and it means leave it 3) then the hard one stay - needs a piece of ply wood on lawn to teach and stay means stay -remember the dog will respond to hand signals better than word commands - once you have those on him tie him up -stay - he will get the idea - very important point those training collars need the dog to understand whats required first - electric collars can totally stuff dogs - get over the aversion of tieing him up because if you keep allowing him to wander of yup trouble coming

He is ok with 1st and 2nd command, he would come and leave things at most occasion as told (no specific hand signal but he picked up my body language pretty good),
command #3 is the hardest like you said,
he would stay for a minute or 2 maybe ... then he forgot what was the instruction
else he would stay longer, if I'm there and keep reminding him to stay.

However, all that 3 commands out of windows once his reactive sense triggered (wildcat or rabbit or another reactive dog).

I did consider e-collar once but have mix feeling about it because I don't know how to use or teach it properly,
I guess, I would see a red flag or marker if he wonder off without permission, he would get a shock once he reach that marker, have to youtube more on this one.

Well you can either tie him up or put in the time and train him or at some stage you wont need to worry as sure enough one day he will wander off somewhere where hes not supposed to be and youll find him with a hole in him.....
