You are going to have this dog for at least 10 yrs so chose wiely. Me i'm biased on wire haired pointers, not everyone's cuo of tea . I'm now on my 3rd and luv this versatile breed.

My mate just got a new pup - registered as a 'lab cross' - man she looks striaght out of a wire hair pointer book. Super smart...and leggy. At just 4months she is level with Jet and her house mate Huntaway x Heading bitch.
She loves the free fresh wind in her hair; Life without care. She's broke but it's oke; that's why the lady is a tramp.

This wee girl, about 22-23kg, too many breeds in her make up, cattle cross keeps it easy
I wounder now to looking back at her late mother there could have been some watered down pointer of some sort in there too

Waihi SPCA - Dogs | Trade Me

Dog three is a viszla-beagle cross. Not far from where you live, you should go have a look. Could be a good cross, could have an epic nose and be a bit more mellow (than a pedigree viszla).

My neighbour and good friend has the same cross. He is hard working (very motivated) but still quite the handful. He works well if you know how to work him... I would not suggest him as a first time dog owner's project. That's just Wolly though! He's 2 years old, still very much a puppy/nutjob ADD!

I wouldn't take anything with a beagle cross. I've never met a good beagle for starters, then think how the hound breeds and in patricular the beagle, operate. At full noise, in a pack, independently of the handler. Not deer dog material

I like having a bit of Beagle in there The ones I've got don't do the yodeling and have bloody good noses.
Cause it will be worked tight for the job in hand I can't see it being a problem.
