I guess with bells you can have a number of different ones to change the tone etc...obviously not with the beeper collar...

The primary advantages of the beeper is that it still works when the dog isn't moving and you can activate and deactivate them remotely so they don't need to be on all the time.

Beeper collar saved my weims life last year and now I won't run any dog without one.

mostly an older version of the beeper collar...you can imagine when roughshooting in the rough rough you can lose sight or where abouts of your dog...bells will certainly 'arrest' birds, as RCGSP points out with the bobwhites...the beeper collars have two noises, one when the dog is moving and another when the dog is on point (as in locked in the stationery!!)...it is a great piece of technology which I am not inclined to catch up with simply cos I love the bells...

By my way of thinking, with the amount of time and money I have into each of my dogs the beeper collar is a cheap investment to be able to locate them at any time, especially in an emergency. At least once this has meant the difference between life and death for a very experienced, valuable dog of mine so my dogs wear them all the time, every time.
