Size: 498.1 KB this is a photo of my son's dog Duke. Duke is a 3 year old mastiff(bull with a french mastiff as one grandparent)he is a very solid dog who can run fast over a short distance.he has remarkable long distance vision. yes he spots little piggy in the horse paddock.little piggy who has been adopted by the horses.well upshot was duke charged after piggy so we had horses and piggy going everywhere.duke grabbed little piggy on the ear,so i had no time for more photos,as i had to rescue piggy, only a sore ear and tell duke he was a bad boy.

I obviously can't speak for them all GSPF but every NZ one I have seen did, excepting dogs from one particular line. Most of the older working blood we had here were very good retrievers, the equal of any versatile breed I have seen.

expecting to see a huge change of breeds in retriever trials after that statement.

Read it again, I never compared them to retriever breeds, that would be fool hardy. I did compare them to some of our versatile breeds here however.

My pointer is as good as any when it comes to retrieving, better than any versatile I have seen. I will go 1 further and say as good or better than most retriever breeds Ive seen.

Oskar is very keen to do his first opening day on ducks. He needs to understand that it's easier to retrieve a duck after it is shot though. Very amusing seeing him try to "retrieve" a pair of very alive parries on a dam this afternoon.
Hopefully one day he also realises that he has a pair of eyes and they can actually compliment a nose!
Tested out the new shotgun on a hare that took a gamble on how well he could hide. He lost that round.

Very, very close to giving a cat both barrels prior to the hare. Just wasn't sure if it was a pet or not, being the first visit to this farm. The damn dog would not leave a bunch of bushes alone leaving me in the dark until a moggy shot out.
Oskar sure has something deep inside his breeding that knows birds are his "deal". I'm sure he will be an acceptable deer dog but birds are in his blood.

The bugger went into the front of my ute and out the back.....pissed about 15 times on the scrub I was picking up, tried to chase swans, ducks and turkeys..........
He's like a dog version of James

That's why felt comfortable making that statement. Some of the versatile breeds here are a mess, to be blunt. Except for a few kennels, they are potluck as to what you get
