He’s really quite smart, but also an idiot. If I’d been hunting when he was a pup he’d be well scent trained by now.

My boy spent the first year and a half acting like his ears were painted on and I thought he might be a bit of a dummy. He listens now so was just a slow starter. He's half Lab and half Visla but a 100% goofbag

Mines half lab half shar-pei, fantastic family dog, and guards the house nicely.

jack is 40kg which is pretty big for a Lab cross. My biggest dog was a Rottie bitch who was 65Kg. That is her on the right of my 50Kg boy on the back of the old work truck.

Little dog ( I'm calling Jessie) who gave the neighours the "finger" and came to live with me is finally paying her way. Her first legit caught and killed rat I can see the advantage of small dogs now since my boy would have had no chance under the roofing iron

Oh never thought about blue healer, I think there is Jack Russel and a bit of chihuahua. She has the brown dot above the eyes which also usually means Huntaway/Rottie/Dashun'd etc...

Those dots are linked to a dominant gene since if they have almost any huntaway/rottie etc.. in them the dots will appear. We have a beaded collie huntaway cross at work and you can still faintly see the dots above her eyes

Took Nikau for a recon trip on Saturday to check out a couple areas i wanted to explore more during the roar. Turned out to be a good day out, but no deer unfortunately. Wind was swirling a bit and Nikau worked it when ever a gust would come through. His ground scent work is amazing. Nose down and will follow trails and lead me straight into the area's the deer have been. Sign tends to get fresher and fresher to further we go. Unfortunately, we end up with the wind up our bums and i have to turn him around a few times. It just seems like he knows what we're doing without having put an animal on the deck over him yet.

Do others dogs rub their necks and roll in scented up areas? ie deer beds, hind shit, etc.?

Yes my bitch loves to roll in all those smelly things, especially pig shit, mainly the sloppy stuff. Then she likes to hunt real close to me and get it on my leg.
