On the case of dog intelligence.....so Poodle, Boarder Collies every one pretty much says year super intelligent.
    But are they?
If you look at a little old Jack Russel for example that you can’t train for shit (I know some here have trained them but bear with me)

Now it might just be the other way around the Jack Russel is hard to train because he’s super intelligent and knows not to listen to stupid humans who want him to do stupid things by not getting trained he gets to do his own thing
Micky Duck and rewa like this.
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.

I have a mate who has 2 and uses both for hunting sambar. One is very good and the other is ok. He has plenty of photos of his dogs with the deer they have helped him shoot. Loves showing the guys who think their purpose bred hounds are better than anyone else's

Pengy be careful what you say a sensitive dog may take offence if it thought you were talking about its owner

Are they the regular size or the little toy buggers?

Took my miniature poodle pig hunting but he got absolutely worn out half way through the morning so we had to carry him the rest of the way there and most of the way back. Very smart dog. His real talent was as a watch dog (same for the toy) - he caught two lots of burglars. I'd go for a full-size standard poodle for hunting. The difficulty is getting a dog without genetic faults from the very small gene pool in New Zealand.

I went to a gundog exercise years back and the standard poodle was still willing to dive back into the water and retrieve after the labs and retrievers had gotten too tired.
its a bloody shame they have now become foo foo dogs

I always thought Standard-poodles (large) were originally bred for hunting..?? the "right one", like any breed, should be fine ?
