Sit has to be the first command, then stay, Platz (down) etc
Same as children, if you wont sit you dont eat

Ah well that's good. at least she doesn't have to un-learn that bad habit. (very common!)
But yeah, really need to drill/train the basics to the point where doggo doesn't consider compliance as "optional"
It's been a few weeks... how are you and her getting on?
A little better. Trying to build reward/praise into every interaction so she knows there's something in it for her whenever she comes close to me. She's actually come back to me voluntarily *shock*
Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.
Cool.
build on that.
My dogs know I'm always a safe space. Unfortunately that means they will often come in from a long way-away, if they get spooked or run out of inspiration. Better than them running into the road, or danger though.
I haven't found a need to train that out yet, however i find it annoying.
@Eat Meater there is a guy here in Welly who specialises in grey hounds, whippets etc
Look up The Hound Way on Facebook, if you have it.
His job is working and training dogs, everyday. A balanced trainer with none of this force free rubbish. Plenty of good advice here, but being shown how to do something in person goes a hell of a long way.
In conjunction with another very good trainer, he holds weekend meet ups for help with training and more so training the owner in how to train their dog.
