My black lab, Tara, died today. She was in a lot of pain this morning so we rushed her to the vets. An x ray revealed that she had a severe uterine infection. We knew given her age (13) that operating would be 50/50, but I wasn't ready to loose her.
Unfortunately she died on the operating table.
We have been through so much together - many a great duck shooting and pheasant hunting trip. She was the best dog I've trained, so easy given her absolute love of food. I'll never forget coming home one day to find that she had gotten into the dog food and had made it a fair way through a 12kg bag of Eukanuba.
I have been through so much of life with her by my side - I got her just after I started going out with my wife. When we brought our daughter home from the hospital she suddenly became all protective and would bark at any stranger that came up the drive. My kids grew up playing with her, pulling her tail and trying to ride her. But she took it with good grace.
In her later years she was a great companion and 'mother' to our two crazy black lab pups.
I knew this day was coming, but it doesn't make it any easier
RIP Tara - I'm really going to miss you
