    Shock collar recommendatiins

Ok folks I know shock collars are contentious issues but I believe they work well.

Have seen one that just buzzed as a slight correction and also used one doing kiwi aversion that gave them a good belt.

Looking at buying my own as one dog keeps buggering off and finding possums when out for evening walks when I don't have the rifle and hunting isn't the activity. No matter how much yelling she'll be sitting under a tree barking at the bloody thing walk off and leave her and she'll join back up further along the track but this is getting old fast.

Would a buzz/vibration be enough to bring her back? What the the features I should be looking for on th collar and hand unit? I did a quick look and see they range hugely ($80 is for a cheap off trade me to $800+) http://www.mggproducts.co.nz/index.p...product_id=457 is the one that seems to be fitting the bill best

Why not go for an alpha 100 unit, and TT15 collar, plus side is you get a gps for free!
You can get the dog to recall to the beeper sound that the collar makes, I have seen this with my own dogs.

Getting a gps collar was another idea, still looking into what is available. First impressions are that the gps collars don't have the same range of vibrations/ buzz/ shocks

Would of been one of the best videos out if we made one every time it shocked him he would yell out and it would get him again we were on the floor laughing over that one

Only problem with a gps version is its a bit out of the budget at the moment and I don't use dogs for pigs at all. Guess I could wear it so the missus can keep a track of me....

The missus has already used the find my iphone feature on my phone to see where I was, when I was legitimately at work...lets just say it was the last time I gave her any of my passwords

Spend decent money and get a good unit, dogtra etc.
You can get them from cabelas pretty cheap or pay a third more going through the nz supplier.
I own a pair of them but have never actually used them to be honest.....they are always loaned out.

Re reading your post it sounds like you only want to discourage the dog while on possums. Would a bark collar be enough gun? You could always try the 2nd hand market for something like an Alpha but you dont get vibrate, try and get a legit one if you go that path as having the US frequencies can be a hassle if it needs repair.
The only thing an alpha lacks is the vibrate function of some other collars, it has a good set of lower levels for stimulation, which is where they should be set mostly..

I was using one of these https://dogmaster.co.nz/dogtra-iq-pl...g-system-365m/ A good unit that works well.

I now use a Alpha 100/TT15. One push of the vibrate button and my dog comes to heel. Excellent.

I have a Garmin alpha, has vibrate, tone and shock functions, got an older dog going deaf so wanted the beep to call him back, good for showing when on point in heavy cover too

Do like the look of the Garmin alpha but it's a bit more than I need. Only take one dog out at a time and usually withen 100m. Well out of the budget as well, might buy a cheaper off trade me and make do with that for the mean time
