@Hermitage, I read this thread last night and now was my first chance to comment. I was planning to post differently, but with your update and additional context, I think you have made the right decision. I did a couple of years living on my own and I think having a pet made the difference between it being an easy way to live, vs lonely. It’s a quiet house to come home to when your cat/dog doesn’t meet you at the door, and 12k can’t keep you company the same way. So I would suggest you would notice the absence of your dog more often and more acutely then you will notice the absence of 12k from your bank acc.
