Training pig dogs and a deer indicating dog are worlds apart. I can't comment on pig dogs, only deer.

After reading these types of posts on NZ forums for years now, the best advice I can offer to anyone keen on starting a deer dog is to find a guy who has one up and running really well, and ask to tag along. I see so many people say they want to train a deer dog without actually knowing how a top dog works. Tagging along might change your mind - you do it for the love of dog work not as a short term solution to a lack of deer

Well I come from a farming back ground and have spent lots of time with them certainly have a love for them.
Where I am there certainly is no lack of deer. We shot 2 10mins walk from the house a little while ago and you see them on the drive way often.
I just thought if I can then why not. But if I can't, oh well no biggie.

His name is Dave Wilson and he was very helpful.
Yeah I know what you are saying Pointer. I don't know how a top dog works and unfortunately I don't have anyone locally (that I know of anyway) that can show me. So maybe it's not going to happen?
