Greetings @johnd and all,
This is a great shoot for the long rangers amoung us. These NRA type ranges are all over the country and often have ranges out to 1,000 yards. Prior to around 1960 most target shooting was with the .303 out to 1,000 yards. Later NZDA and others started offering 4 position shoots for centre fire rifles as this was more like the shooting that deerstalkers were doing in the field. Over time many deerstalkers started shooting longer with better optics and F-Class shooting allowed the use of bipods and other rests and scope sights so deerstalking and target shooting moved closer together again.
So we should all consider making better use of the longer rifle ranges like the one above. The electronic targets make scoring at loner ranges a doddle with no patching required and you should be able to come away from the shoot with an electronic record of your shooting. All plusses here.
Regards Grandpamac.
This weekend ( Sat 9th March ) we are having an improptu .303 shoot, no competition no prizes just a bring 'em and shoot 'em event.
Probably shoot at 300 and 600 yds only. The format will be pretty casual, you can shoot 2 sighters plus 5 for score or 2 sighters plus 10 for score. We dont even care if you just shoot sighters only aye @shift14.
We are open to you shooting any other range acceptable rifle as well.
But if you want to check on how accurate that old basher is its a good chance to see.
