A bit more bang is better.
Interesting topic, the ones I've done have all been done using kits. Probably many ways to achieve the same end, the biggest thing I found is you need to get the prep work right as it's a power of work trying to go back and redo things when you find it isn't right first time. That part is where you google up some youtube vids and learn about how good to prep it!
Of course the other approach is to find an expert - if I want my hide tanned nowadays I just get cheeky to the wife. That sorts me out quicksmart, your mileage might vary...
I've only done 1 goat skin but it turned out good just using salt using this method - https://youtu.be/mB5k3PwZA4s. It's fine for a rug but it's not supply though...
elcaro.....that will wick up moisture badly...and if gets wet will revert to rawhide.... same as kero and baking soda does.
75/15/10 black powder matters
done kero and baking soda tanning years ago,had all skins tacked to my bedroom wall.Away from the farm on a NZ Army tour of duty for a couple of years and the skins got damp over winters and were fucked.
