My boys 6 soon and he wants a bigger bow, I think he is ready for one too.
Just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone had something for sale as they may have upgraded etc.
Cheers.

I have a 25lb bow but it might be a bit too strong
Yea it would be too big
@Sean, Cheers but yes , way too big, we are looking 10-15 lb,
They do, but I am hoping to get something of better quality and possibly able to be upgraded. And going second hand makes sense too as it keeps the price down too.
My guy had one of these from ~6-8 years and then moved on to something bigger.

It's a compound bow and I am not sure if that is what you are after. We went compound when he was young because he got a lot more arrow speed and could deal with a little more weight. It was a good move when he was young as he could do a lot more wiht the bow than if he had a recurve.

Remember that even a bow that is 15lb, at his draw length might only be 7lb, not a lot of power which translates to not a lot of distance or accuracy.
Not the cheapest but hold value better and they dont outgrow them as quickly.
For a recurve, there will be more around second hand but I would suggest something like a SF optimo or similar, e.g. samick which can be had for around $150 new.
I don't see too many second hand 'proper bows' about for the really young guys, I wouldnt go with something that is not a recurve. (unless going with a compound)
Actually, it had me thinking and I have my sons recurve.
It's a Samick polaris with samick polaris limbs. 14# and would suit a 6 year old in size. currently the riser is $95, the limbs are $95 new, I would sell for $90 + shipping.
It's been used for a couple shoots at the club when we decided to go compound as there was no one else his age at the club, the compound let us go to the distances the older kids were shooting. Primarily so he wasn't shooting off in a corner by himself.
pm me if interested, it has a string too.
MaW, Cheers, we were looking at that bow as an option.
I agree with you re the compound verses recurve, and finding a 'proper' one at a realistic price (to me) at the moment is hard, $300 for something that realistically may only be a toy to him is a bit hard to swallow on our income.
We are wanting to go compound also because his older brother is shooting a compound too so little brother wants to be like big brother.
Thanks for the offer on the Samik that's a good price, but we will keep looking at Compounds for him.
Thanks
No problem
Diamond do make about the only kid bows over here that are at a good price that are not toys. Over the years we have had the diamond nuclear ice which is about as small as you can go while still being a properly designed compound, just scaled down in size. Then there is the atomic that I linked to above. That could last him many years as you can increase the draw length and wind up the poundage past what he could draw.
I think he would 'like' to upgrade past it before he needed to. The next one up, either the diamond infinite edge of the bowtech fuel would be the next thing, depending on his body size from 10 years to 12 years old.
The atomic could easily last him six years as long as it's not too much of a struggle at this stage. I am struggling to remember exactly what age my son went on to the atomic from the nuclear ice. I think it was around 7 years old but could have done it earlier I think.
There are other kid options over here, the hoyt ruckus and the mission (something I forget the name) but both would be too large I think.
Good luck looking!
I have a Golden Eagle Brave, think my son was 7ish. Not been used for years. Don't think I can put photos on here as I am new. If that's the sort of thing your looking for message me and I can email you. It looks to be in good condition,
Cheers MaW, your info has been very helpful. We had looked at a few of the bows you mention and if he takes to the bows, we will definitely head that way with one of those, the Hoyts Ruckus appealed to me, but we will have another look when he needs to step up again.
Thanks heaps for your input
At 6 theres only 2 bows of quality here in nz, the mini genesis or the diamond atomic, my boy has had an atomic since he was 6 and hes still shooting it now will last him till hes ten then i will get a bow like the infinite edge. The problem with bows like the ruckus etc is the mass weight of it for kids, if its to heavy and he can only lift it a few times its not fun and then they lose interest.
Flick me a pm i buy and and sell used bows all the time im currently on bow number 20 in 2 years haha

Thanks for the input W8indq, I'll message you. It looks like we have a bow to use in the interim, Cheers to Chindit. But the more contacts/leads the better. Cheers
